Description
Ladies and Gentlemen, Monty’s Guitars is proud to introduce Monty’s Montypresso Dark – the Original Guitar Relic Wax. Montypresso Dark now comes in a tin that holds the same amount of wax as the old Montyfied expresso cups. Out with the old, in with the new tins. You are going to love them! Great collectors item!
If you are looking to turn your ’03 into a ’63, or your R9 into a ’59, Monty’s Montypresso Dark is the perfect solution. Applying it to open-grained woods darkens and relics the lightest shades of grain, while giving a smooth, gloriously grubby finish. And, let’s be honest . . . who doesn’t like one of those.
At its base, Montypresso Dark is made from the same all-natural and non-toxic ingredients as Monty’s Instrument Food. So while relicing, it helps to condition and feed your wood. But, it is far less potent than the Instrument Food. So we recommend, after relicing with Montypresso Dark, feed the area a generous helping of Instrument Food to keep it satiated and double seal in the age.
Montypresso Dark has two main applications:
- When applied to an open grain fingerboard, made from such fine timbers as rosewood or pao ferro, it will darken the wood to a rich shade of golden-era Brazilian rosewood – with the look and feel like a well-played board.
- It gives the open grain, on the back of a guitar neck, the appearance of an instrument that has seen many a sweaty palm. And the open, worn areas of a body the grubbiest of hues.
How do you use it? I thought you would never ask.
- Gloves are recommended when applying because this is a stain. So please glove up to avoid a nasty case of brown thumb.
- Simply rub a generous amount onto your fingerboard or the area you wish to darken.
- Leave for five to ten minutes (the longer you leave it, the better the result)
- Then, take a clean cloth and buff it off.
For the best results, we recommend multiple applications, spread over time, to allow the stain to soak deep into the wood and work its magic.
Several helpful hints about Montypresso Dark:
- Montypresso Dark will only work on bare, open-grained woods. If there is a finish on your guitar, the neck or body, the Relic Wax will not penetrate the grain and the stain won’t give the desired effect.
- Please do not forget Montypresso Dark is a stain. Once applied, it will make a permanent change to your instrument. Please be totally sure you want to rub on some age before commencing or you will not be able to find a cosmetic surgeon talented enough to turn back these waxy hands of time.
- Whilst it works wonders on guitars, Montypresso Dark is not so great with clothing or soft furnishings. So please be careful when applying it. FU-Tone and Monty’s Guitars Ltd will take no responsibility for the brown stains on your couch cushions.
